I understand that the main tasks of the 1st Vice President of CAJCL are to recruit new schools and to promote engagement with the broader community. With these tasks in mind, I have many different ideas that could accomplish these goals. In order to recruit new schools, the first task is to prove how impactful CAJCL can be for students and teachers. If I were elected, I would ask each current chapter to send a video of members discussing how JCL has impacted their Latin experience. I would also ask teachers to explain how JCL has helped them teach their students and how it has created a community of fellow teachers who rely on one another. Finally, I would ask alumni from the Senior Classical League community how CAJCL has impacted their lives in college, specifically through their studies, extracurriculars, involvement in research, and career goals. I would then compose these clips into one video that portrays the CAJCL community as a whole. Hopefully this video would show prospective schools how CAJCL offers students a uniquely hands-on learning experience that can transform an initial interest in Latin into a lifelong passion. Then I would invite the interested schools to Ludi or SCRAM since you do not need to be a part of CAJCL to attend. CAJCL could offer these interested schools Ludi/SCRAM Buddies, who are current JCL students at local chapters. These buddies could be in communication with interested schools before Ludi and SCRAM and stick with them during the event, showing them the ropes and answering logistical questions so that they do not get overwhelmed. Therefore, students from different chapters could get to know each other before Convention and have friends to attend Convention events with. Ideally, these interested students and their teachers would have such an amazing experience that they are convinced to come back for more by registering for CAJCL and attending Convention. Finally, I acknowledge that some prospective schools may face financial barriers to attending Convention. CAJCL could work to overcome this by having featured schools at Ludi and SCRAM. Under this featured status, schools will be the recipients of a fundraiser at Ludi and SCRAM with the goal of raising enough money to assist them with State Convention costs.
